By Tim Wheeler I attended a membership meeting of Indivisible Sequim this afternoon. I wanted to make a pitch for votes to reelect Wendy Rae Johnson who is seeking a second three-year term as a Commissioner for the Clallam Conservation District (CCD). But I had only one leaflet left with a photo of Wendy Rae and the web address www.clallamcd.org and a QR code. People needed those contact addresses to request that CCD mail them a ballot for the election in March. The problem was that the deadline for sending in a request for a mail ballot was Wednesday, February 18, at 4 p.m., only a few days following the meeting. So, I wanted to make an urgent plea to mobilize every person at the meeting to send in a ballot request if they had not already done so.
At the beginning of the meeting, I asked if there would be time for me to make my pitch. But the organizer chairing the meeting shook her head. No, the schedule is just too tight. But sitting beside me was Dale Jarvis, the organizer of the Sequim Good Governance League who played a leading role in organizing the grassroots movement of about 200 people, doorbelling, doing street corner sign waves and other actions to oust from the Sequim City Council QAnon Mayor William Armacost and all Armacost’s extremist followers. That task was accomplished a couple of years ago with Armacost losing to Sequim City Councilwoman Kathy Peterson Downer who took 70% of the vote to less than 30% for Armacost. Dale nodded vigorously when he saw my leaflet and whispered to me it was an excellent, timely initiative to get-out-the-vote for Wendy Rae. So, as the highly productive meeting proceeded on mobilizing a big vote to defeat the MAGA Republicans in November, I went from table to table whispering that everyone must vote for Wendy Rae Johnson, that her reelection in a landslide will send a message that we will not accept ICE murders and cuts in the “safety net” inflicted by the Trump MAGA gang! I urged people to write down the CCD web address, www.clallamcd.org, or that people take photos with their cell phones of the QR code. I took the leaflet to all seven of the tables, each with 10 or more people. When I retrieved the leaflet, it was tattered and torn from being passed around each table with cell phone cameras clicking. An Indivisible organizer asked me to place the leaflet on the table at the entrance so everyone could write down or photograph the contact information on their way out. Dale took the floor at the end of the meeting to tell the crowd how important it is for Wendy Rae Johnson to win reelection, running against a candidate funded by local rabid MAGA extremists. The rightwing is waging a nasty war against the CCD, as well as against the Board of Commissioners of Clallam County. Wendy Rae told us later that hundreds of ballot requests came in after that meeting! To say the least, she was very pleased. The CCD election is completely separate from the usual Clallam County elections. It is the first midterm election in Clallam County this year, so it is a chance for us to say “NO” in a loud voice to the hatred and fear, and the cutbacks of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP nutrition benefits inflicted by the Trump gang! I hope you made your request for a ballot in time! Your ballot should have arrived by now, so now VOTE! Ballots are due on election day, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, by 4 p.m. Comments are closed.
